Musona Secures Zim PSL Move After Saudi Exit

Former Kaizer Chiefs talisman Knowledge Musona has signed for the Zimbabwe Castle Premier Soccer League (PSL) newcomers Scottland FC following his exit from Saudi Pro League side Al-Okhdood at the end of last season.

The Zimbabwe international played a crucial part in helping the Saudi club to beat the drop, as he scored five goals and provided three assists in 30 league matches. However, with Al-Okhdood looking to sign new foreign players, the two parties parted company.

This saw the veteran’s spell in the oil-rich Kingdom come to an end, having moved to the Gulf region in 2021. Musona turned out for Al-Tai in his first two years in the country, before joining Al Riyadh in the 2023/24 season.

In Europe, Musona played for German clubs TSG Hoffenheim and FC Augsburg, before catching the eye of Belgian outfit KV Oostende, where he scored 41 goals and set up 18 more in 112 games across all competitions for the club.

The impressive display sealed a transfer to Anderlecht in 2018 – a move that was hampered by a significant lack of game time and a series of loan spells at KSC Lokeren and KAS Eupen, followed by an eventual sale to Saudi Arabia.

Now, Musona, who won the 2010/11 ABSA Premiership Golden Boot with 15 goals, has made a sensational return to ply his trade in his homeland for the first time as he cut his professional teeth with Amakhosi, netting 40 goals and 13 assists in 88 games played.

At the newly promoted club, the 35-year-old will play alongside former Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns star Khama Billiat and ex-Orlando Pirates forward Terrence Dzvukamanja.  In addition, he will be teammates with his younger brother, Walter Musona.

Scottland are aiming to clinch the league title in their maiden season in the elite league as they are currently in fourth place. The ambitious side currently trails the log leaders and reigning champions, Simba Bhora, with four points.
