Ncikazi Explains The Substitution Of Chaine

Orlando Pirates caretaker coach Mandla Ncikazi has clarified the decision to substitute goalkeeper Sipho Chaine during their 1-1 draw against TS Galaxy on Saturday at Orlando Stadium.

Chaine, who was replaced by former Galaxy goalkeeper Melusi Buthelezi, left the field in the 46th minute due to a tight Achilles tendon issue.

“Sipho Chaine suffered a major Achilles tendon; it was very tight, and he couldn’t continue playing,” Ncikazi explained after the match.

The medical team’s advice led to the substitution, and Ncikazi had made a tactical switch to ensure the team’s safety. Buthelezi, who conceded a goal in the 94th minute, stepped in and helped the team secure a draw.

The injury to Chaine adds to the growing list of players sidelined with injuries.

Thalente Mbatha was notably absent from the matchday squad, and Ncikazi confirmed that the former SuperSport United midfielder was not available in the matchday squad.

“In the morning, we also lost Thalente Mbatha, and you saw he was not with the team,” Ncikazi said, revealing that Mbatha’s injury ruled him out of the match.

Another player, Makhehleni Makhaula, is also nursing an injury, which was visible in the previous match.

“Makhaula is also injured, and you saw it in the last match,” Ncikazi added.

Despite these setbacks, Ncikazi remains optimistic about the team’s future. He believes that this is an opportunity to give young players a chance to prove themselves.

The Buccaneers have a young player, Simphiwe Selepe, an opportunity to start the game on Saturday as both Mbatha and Makhaula are injured.

The young players had an outstanding performance and even won the Man of the Match award.

“I think we’ll give young players a chance because we are still growing the team,” Ncikazi said, hinting at potential changes in the Pirates lineup.
