Parker Recalls 2019 Nedbank Cup Pain As Galaxy Prepare For Jacksa Spears
TS Galaxy assistant coach Bernard Parker has fondly recalled the unforgettable 2019 Nedbank Cup final defeat to TS Galaxy, where they emerged victorious with a 1-0 win over his former team, Kaizer Chiefs.
Galaxy triumphed over Chiefs in the 2019 final, becoming the National First Division side to make history, to win the Ke Yona Cup.
Furthermore, Parker scored a winning goal for the Glamour Boys in 2013 when they claimed the Nedbank Cup against SuperSport United at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
“I was playing for the current Nedbank Cup champions [Chiefs],” said Parker.
“TS Galaxy was plying their trade in the NFD. TS Galaxy came out victorious in that final at Moses Mabhida Stadium. It’s just the magic of the Nedbank Cup, and surprises will always come up. For us, it’s about how you deal with the moment and how you manage the game within the moment.
“Unfortunately, then I was on the losing side, but now this time around I want to be on the winning side as a coach, to get the Nedbank Cup winning medal as a coach, which I know is possible and I believe is possible.”
“Within the members of TS Galaxy, we can say the longest-serving member is the chairman, who is the founder of the team,” he said, referring to club boss Tim Sukazi.
The former Bafana Bafana player added that Galaxy is geared up for their quarter-final clash against Jacksa Spears at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium on Sunday, noting that initially they didn’t have much information on their opponents, but now they’re clued up and ready for the challenge.
The Mpumalanga-based outfit reached the quarter-final after they stunned Mamelodi Sundowns in the last 16 at the same venue.
“About Jacksa Spears, we didn’t have much info at first, but we have a top analyst team. They made the necessary steps to get footage from them, and I think we are satisfied with the information we have gathered,” he said.
“As a technical team, we are well prepared. It’s just to make the players aware and alert about what they might expect on the day,” Parker stated.
