Pirates Drop Points While Chiefs Struggles Continue In Diski Challenge

Orlando Pirates dropped points with a draw while Kaizer Chiefs’ struggles deepened after another defeat as both Soweto giants endured contrasting disappointments in Sunday morning’s DStv Diski Challenge action.

The Buccaneers arrived at Isak Steyl Stadium aiming to extend their impressive league form, but TS Galaxy held them to a 1-1 draw.

Despite failing to collect maximum points, Pirates remain at the top of the log with 44 points from 17 games as they continue their push for a first-ever Diski Challenge title since the competition’s inception in 2014.

The defending champions, Chiefs, continue to find life difficult after suffering a heavy 4-1 loss to Orbit College at Olympia Park Stadium.

This result means the Phefeni Glamour Boys have now gone three matches without a win, having recorded two defeats and a draw in their last three outings.

Following the loss, Amakhosi remained in fifth place on the standings with 27 points from 17 matches.

On Saturday, Mamelodi Sundowns kept the pressure on Pirates with a solid 2-0 victory over Sekhukhune United at Tuks Stadium.

The win sees Sundowns stay second on the log with 39 points from 18 games, sitting five points behind the league leaders.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Marumo Gallants claimed an emphatic 5-2 win over Chippa United, while Durban City and Polokwane City played out a goalless 0-0 draw. Magesi, meanwhile, suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat against Richards Bay.

The remaining fixtures saw Siwelele and AmaZulu share the spoils in a 1-1 draw at UJ Soweto Stadium, while two-time Diski Challenge champions Stellenbosch went down 2-1 to Golden Arrows at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium.
