Salgado Expects A Tough Semifinal Against Nigeria

Banyana Banyana striker Gabriela Salgado expressed confidence in the team’s readiness to face Nigeria in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) semifinal this Tuesday evening.
The highly anticipated match will be held at Stade Larbi Zaouli in Morocco, and Salgado anticipates a formidable challenge.
“We know we’re going into the semifinal game, it’s going to be a challenge, but we are physically and mentally prepared,” Salgado said.
“We know the responsibility we hold, and we just look forward to a good game and hopefully finishing it within the 90 minutes.”
Banyana Banyana’s victory against Senegal in the quarterfinals, which was decided on penalties after a 0-0 draw, has provided the team with valuable lessons that they will carry into the semifinal match.
Salgado added, “Every game that we play, we take our lessons, and we take them into the next game and improve what we learned from that game.”
The 26-year-old striker believes that the Senegal game brought the team closer together, showcasing the desire and hunger in each other’s eyes.
“Just going into this game, I think the Senegal game, of course, brought us together as a team, we saw the desire, the hunger in each other’s eyes, and it brought us just closer together knowing how we’ll need each other going into the next game.”
Salgado concluded that the team is prepared and ready for the challenge ahead. “I think the team is prepared, we’re ready, we know what we have to do, and I think everyone is just on the same page, and we are excited for the game.”
A victory for Banyana Banyana will see them advance to the competition’s final for the second consecutive year.
The winner of the semifinal match between Morocco and Ghana will be their opponent in the final, which is scheduled for Saturday at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat.
Suppose both Banyana Banyana and Morocco win their semifinal matches. In that case, they will face each other in the final for the second consecutive time, following their encounter in 2022, where Banyana Banyana emerged victorious.
The third-place playoff will take place on Friday evening, featuring the teams that lost in the semifinals.
