Some Old Horses Back In All Black Side To Face The Boks

There are familiar faces returning to the All Blacks squad as they prepare to face the Springboks in two intense Test matches in the Rugby Championship next month and early September in South Africa.

Former captain Sam Cane is back in the side, alongside Sevu Reece, whose absence due to injury was keenly felt by the All Blacks during last year’s World Cup.

Unfortunately, the All Blacks have lost iconic locks Sam Whitelock and Brodie Retallick to retirement following last year’s World Cup.

Lock Scott Barrett has been named captain and will be supported by vice-captains Ardie Savea, the World Player of the Year, and midfielder Jordie Barrett.

Cane will make his first appearance for New Zealand since being sent off in the Rugby World Cup final against the Springboks in France last October. He was initially issued a yellow card for a head-on collision with Bok centre Jesse Kriel, but this was upgraded to a red card following a bunker review.

The Springboks will host the All Blacks in two Test matches: on 31 August at Emirates Ellis Park Stadium and on 7 September at DHL Stadium. These matches will follow two away games against Australia in Brisbane on 10 August and Perth on 17 August.

The Springboks will also face Argentina, who impressed at the last World Cup by reaching the semifinals, in their remaining Rugby Championship matches.

The All Blacks have been champions of the Rugby Championship since 2021, while South Africa’s last title was in 2019, the same year they won the World Cup.
