Sukazi Praises Baganovic After Impressive Start At Galaxy

TS Galaxy chairman Tim Sukazi has expressed his confidence in the appointment of head coach Adnan Baganovic, citing the team’s improved performance as evidence of the right decision.

Baganovic’s appointment in November, following Sead Ramovic’s departure after a 1-1 draw with Stellenbosch, came as a surprise to many. Ramovic, who had been with Galaxy since October 2021, was the club’s longest-serving coach. Baganovic, who had served as Ramovic’s assistant, was on the bench by assisting Ramovic during their Carling Knockout Cup final loss to Stellenbosch in 2023.

Baganovic’s leadership has proven to be a masterstroke for Galaxy. He has guided the team to fourth place in the Betway Premiership, including a midweek victory over Mamelodi Sundowns last week.

Their recent loss to Durban City in the Nedbank Cup round of 16 ended an impressive 13-match unbeaten streak in all competitions, marking Baganovic’s first defeat as head coach.

“Maybe not necessarily surprised,” Sukazi commented.

“Had I not known that they are highly capable, I wouldn’t have given them a chance, no doubt about it. When we made that decision, there were many doubting Thomases. But we stayed calm; we knew what we were getting, and I’m glad that it has shown, and everyone has seen why Adnan Baganovic was given the opportunity to be the head coach of our club.

“Those can see why we were doing now. There is a benefit of top-level [experience] because he is a highly qualified coach, and even better in our case. Baganovic has been with us for two seasons, so it became a natural replacement for Sead Ramovic.”

Baganovic, who has overseen 13 matches with a record of six wins, five draws, and one loss, will aim to lead his team back to winning ways when they host Galaxy at Mbombela Stadium on Tuesday at 7:30 PM.
