Al Ahly Aims To Win Their First Game In SA
Al Ahly coach Marcel Koller says they are aware that their record is horrible in South Africa but his players are ready for their game against Orlando Pirates which could be their first victory.
The Red Devils are set to face the Buccaneers in the second game of the CAF Champions League at Orlando Stadium on Saturday.
These two sides will face each other in a fully packed Stadium, as the tickets have been already sold out on Friday afternoon.
Koller’s side has been struggling to win games in South Africa when they play against Mamelodi Sundowns and Pirates respectively.
Ahly faced the Brazilians two times in 2023 in South Africa and they lost both games in the Champions League as well as in the African Football League.
Meanwhile, Koller said that his players are ready to face Pirates and this could maybe be the right time to win on Saturday. “It’s right we haven’t played a lot of games like Orlando Pirates [this season], but maybe that’s an advantage for us because we are fresh and we are not mentally tired,” Koller said on Friday at Orlando Stadium ahead of their game against the Buccaneers.
“You are right also, Al Ahly never won here but it might be now the right moment to win. We prepared our players to win and maybe we’ll meet on Saturday after the game and talk about it again.”
In their last game playing together, Pirates have three wins, two draws, and one defeat in their six meetings in the Champions League as well as CAF Confederation Cup.
