Chippa Hold Amakhosi To A Disappointing Draw

Kaizer Chiefs and Chippa United played a goalless draw in their Betway Premiership match at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday evening.

Amakhosi came to this game with morale high, having eliminated Mamelodi Sundowns in the semi-final of the Nedbank Cup on Sunday.

Both Chiefs and Chippa started this game on a high tempo as they were outstanding in the first 20 minutes of the game, but unfortunately, they were unlucky not to score.

Chippa almost got the opening goal after 20 minutes as they had many chances, but failed to capitalize on the chances created.

Amakhosi pulled up their socks in the half-hour mark, and they almost got a goal in the 36th minute, unfortunately, Tashreeq Morris’s header went over the bar.

Three minutes after Morris’s chance Chiefs combined great passes upfront, trying to score the first goal, but Stanley Nwabali made a great save, denying the 20-year-old Wandile Duba an opportunity to open the scoring.

The Phefeni Glamour Boys continued with their great display, but unfortunately for them, they didn’t score as the first half ended 0-0.

Coach Nassredine Nabi made two changes before the second-half even started, as he introduced Njabulo Blom and Glody Lilepo for Dillan Solomons and Morris.
second half.

The introduction of Blom and Lilepo had a great impact on Amakhosi as they were outstanding in the first 10 minutes of the second half, but failed to score at least one goal, despite that they created many chances.

The home side got a chance in the 64th minute, but Bruce Bvuma made a great save denying Giovanni Philander’s long-range shot.

Immediately after Philander’s chance, Amakhosi decided to introduce the 20-year-old Mduduzi Shabalala, who replaced the Uruguayan midfielder Gaston Sirino.

Three minutes after Shabalala was introduced, Chiefs failed to score the opening goal after getting a one-on-one with Nwabali.

In the 84th minute, Sirgio Kammies almost got a great goal, but Bvuma made another save to deny the 27-year-old an opportunity to open the scoring.

This was the third time these two rivals faced each other this season, and Amakhosi won the first two games in the league as well as in the Nedbank Cup.

As both shared the spoils, Amakhosi are still in eighth place with 31 points after 25 league games. Chippa, on the other side, has 30 points and they are lying in position number nine.
