Chiefs Target Headlines Tanzania Squad For Bafana Clash

Azam FC star midfielder Feisal Salum, who has been heavily linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs, has been named in the Tanzania national team squad that is set to face Bafana Bafana in an international Friendly match on Friday.

The Taifa Stars will tackle Hugo Broos’ men at Peter Mokaba Stadium in preparation for the COSAFA Cup in Bloemfontein, where they will face Madagascar on Saturday before tackling Eswatini four days later in group C of the tournament.

Tanzania, in search of a first-ever COSAFA Cup title after replacing Morocco in this year’s edition, will rely on the services of Salum, who is expected to be at the heart of the East African guest nation’s quest for supremacy in the 14-team regional tournament.

‘Fei Toto’, as the Zanzibar-born midfield maestro is fondly known in his native country, rose to prominence under the guidance of current Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi at Tanzanian giants Young Africans.

Furthermore, the Tanzanian international was the second top goal scorer in the 2023/24 league campaign in Tanzania, scoring 19 goals, two shy of his former Yanga teammate Stephane Aziz Ki, who recently joined Moroccan powerhouse Wydad Athletic Club last month.

In the ongoing 2024/25 season, the highly-rated player has scored four goals and leads the assists chart with 13 assists provided – four more than Max Nzengeli, who follows with nine assists in the Tanzanian Premier League thus far.

In addition to the Soweto giants, the 27-year-old has also been linked with Betway Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns, who are believed to be keen admirers of the sought-after player, with Fadlu Davids’ Simba SC also thought to be in the race for his signature.

It remains to be seen how Salum, who penned a three-year deal with the Chamazi Millionaires upon his move from Yanga in July 2023, will fare in South Africa, as a strong showing against Bafana and in the COSAFA Cup, respectively, could accelerate a move to one of the PSL giants.
