Sukazi Turns Down Comitis’ Interest Over Potential Sale Of Galaxy

TS Galaxy chairman Tim Sukazi has come forward to reveal a recent conversation he had with Cape Town City chairman John Comitis, who expressed interest in buying the status of TS Galaxy.

However, Sukazi, who also bought the status of Highlands Park, was clear in his response that the club is not for sale.

Sukazi shared the details of their conversation. “He (Comitis) told me that he is asking with respect and also talking with the other two teams, but I told him that our club is not for sale and I’m clear on that,” Sukazi said at Ikhwekhwezi FM.

Sukazi emphasized the importance of Galaxy in the province of Mpumalanga, highlighting the club’s significance as the only professional team in the region.

“So, there’s no person who can come here and say he wants to buy our team,” Sukazi added.

“TS Galaxy is a big club and I always say that, and I want to protect our province in Mpumalanga, and many people know that we come from far without having a professional team in our province.”

The conversation between Sukazi and Comitis comes after Cape Town City’s relegation from the Betway Premiership to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

The Citizens had a disappointing season, finishing 15th with 27 points from 28 games, winning just seven, drawing six, and losing 15.

Despite their struggles, City has a rich history in South African football, having spent nine seasons in the top-tier league after buying the status of Mpumalanga Black Aces in 2016.

During their time in the Premiership, City managed to win two notable trophies: the Carling Knockout (then known as Telkom Knockout) and the MTN8 Cup.

In contrast, Galaxy has made a name for itself in South African football, particularly after winning the Nedbank Cup in 2019 while still playing in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

The club’s rise to prominence continued in September 2020 when they purchased the Premiership status of Highlands Park, allowing them to compete in the top-tier league.

Last season, Galaxy finished an all-time high, a fifth place in the league, a notable achievement that Sukazi proudly mentioned during his conversation with Ikwekwezi FM.

“Another thing, we must also be proud of this club because we finished in position number five in the league last season, and that’s a fact. Others are in a position number nine or whatever, but the truth is, Galaxy is in number five.”

Sukazi’s firm stance on not selling TS Galaxy reflects the club’s growing importance in South African football and its commitment to representing Mpumalanga in the country’s top competitions.
