Appollis On “Perfect” Assist For Mofokeng In Pirates Pre-Season Draw

Orlando Pirates’ new signing, Oswin Appollis, has spoken about his brilliant assist that set up Relebohile Mofokeng for the equalizer in their pre-season friendly against Pafos FC in Marbella on Sunday.

Appollis, recently signed from Polokwane City, received the ball deep in his own half and delivered a pass that sliced through the Cypriot defense.

Mofokeng cleverly shielded the ball from a defender before scoring, a move that would have resulted in a penalty had an opponent made any contact.

Appollis and Mofokeng on the “Perfect” Pass

“I saw Rele already moving, and I saw the space between the center back and the left back,” Appollis explained on SuperSport TV in Spain.

“So, it was going to be difficult if I hit it in the sky. I had to thread it through in between the center back and the left back. And it was a good touch by Rele to take it in front of him because if it touched him [wrongly], it’s a penalty.”

Mofokeng, a strong candidate for the PSL Footballer of the Season, described the pass as “perfect.” “It was a perfect [pass],” Mofokeng stated. “I think he made it easy for me on the ground. It was a better touch.”

A Promising Partnership for Pirates

Pirates fans will be thrilled to witness the developing on-field relationship between Appollis and Mofokeng, as their combination poses a significant threat to opposing teams next season.

“When you are a winger, you must be able to play both [wings], you know. If you can’t play both, then you can’t be a winger. So, I think you can balance the two,” Mofokeng added, highlighting the versatility required in his position.

Appollis Reflects on Pre-Season Progress

This marked Appollis’s second appearance for Pirates during their pre-season camp in Spain. He offered his thoughts on the team’s progress so far.

“You know, there’s a lot of work to be done, you know,” he remarked. “What we wanted to win is a positive. We did most of the stuff that the coach is asking, and we will just continue doing our best on the field.”

Pirates’ next fixture will be against Las Palmas this coming week, in what will be their second-to-last pre-season friendly.
