Mbazo Tips Le Roux To Shine In England

Bafana Bafana legend Aaron Mokoena has shared his thoughts on Luke Le Roux’s recent move to Portsmouth in the EFL Championship, ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Le Roux, who previously played for Swedish side Varnamo, has joined the English side with high hopes of making a mark in the country’s second-tier league.

Mokoena, who also played for Portsmouth from 2009 to 2012, believes that Le Roux has immense potential and that the sky’s the limit for the young midfielder.

“Look, the fact that the boy has now jumped the border, has gotten to the flight, and he is an international player – I think the sky is the limit,” Mokoena told Sportswire in an exclusive interview.

The former Bafana Bafana captain is sharing the same agent as Le Roux, Rob Moore, who took Mokoena to Pompey during his time in England.

The all-time most capped Bafana Bafana player, Mokoena, has emphasized the importance of remembering one’s roots and representing not just oneself, but also one’s family and country.

“As long as you are on that flight and go wherever in the world, you have to remember that you’re not representing yourself only, but your families, and South Africa,” he said.

“When they start making it abroad, they must not forget where they are coming from, and Bafana Bafana is there and is calling them to accept the call-up letter.”

Mokoena also offered words of encouragement to Le Roux, wishing him all the best in his new venture.

“But all in all, I would like to say all the best to the boy, ” he concluded.

“He must get out there and make us proud, but must also know that his family must always come first.”

Le Roux’s new team, Portsmouth, will begin their 2025/26 season against Oxford United on 9 August at Kassam Stadium.

The team will be looking to improve on their 16th-place finish last season, where they accumulated 54 points in 46 games.
