Siwelele Assessing Former Chiefs Winger

Sportswire can reveal that Kgaogelo Sekgota is currently on trial with Siwelele as he looks to revive his football career.

Sekgota’s career has taken a downturn in recent years, most notably after he was admitted to rehabilitation due to alcohol-related issues.

The 27-year-old, once regarded as one of the country’s most promising talents, was most recently on the books of Magesi FC last season, where he featured in just nine matches across all competitions.

This came after he was released by Stellenbosch FC during the 2023/24 season due to off-field issues, despite making 17 appearances for the Cape Winelands side. His contract under then head coach Steve Barker was subsequently terminated, after which he returned home to Limpopo to join Magesi.

Sekgota had joined Stellenbosch after spending two seasons with Kaizer Chiefs between 2021 and 2023, having arrived from Moroka Swallows. Notably, Chiefs had loaned him to Swallows during the 2020/21 season, alongside Sifiso Hlanti, at a time when the club was serving a FIFA transfer ban.

He initially returned to the PSL in the second half of the 2019/20 season, signing for Bidvest Wits under coach Gavin Hunt after leaving Portuguese side Vitória Setúbal.

Earlier in his career, Sekgota also had a stint in Lithuania with Stumbras, where he played alongside fellow South African Jaisen Clifford, who is now at Marumo Gallants and is currently the club’s top scorer.

Sekgota and Clifford helped Stumbras win the club’s first-ever trophy in 2016, before Sekgota later earned a move to Portugal.
