Kaizer Chiefs defender Aden McCarthy has revealed that scoring his first goal for the Amakhosi’s first team is a special moment he will never forget, and one that has also made history for the club.

The 22-year-old former Chiefs’ DStv Diski Challenge team captain made his full debut for the first team last season under the guidance of Nasreddine Nabi against Sekhukhune United in the second round game of the season.

However, the young defender had to wait until this season to score his first goal for Amakhosi, which he achieved in their 1-0 victory against Golden Arrows at FNB Stadium on Tuesday in the first game of the 2026 season in the Betway Premiership.

McCarthy’s goal was something to be written in the history books of Chiefs, as his father, Fabian McCarthy, a former Chiefs’ centre back, also scored his first senior goal for Amakhosi against Golden Arrows on 14 September 2005, at Kings Park in Durban.

This achievement made the duo the first father and son to score for Chiefs against the same opponent in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) era since the 1996/1997 season.

Speaking with the Chiefs’ media department, McCarthy revealed how special it is for him to have scored that goal for Chiefs.

“Scoring my first goal for the club in the league game is something that I will always remember,” McCarthy said.

“I found out that my father and I made history by scoring against the same team.

“As our first goals for Kaizer Chiefs, it’s definitely in the history books, and I’m looking forward to scoring more.”

The Amakhosi academy graduate will be aiming to add to his goal tally when his side faces Marumo Gallants in the Free State in the Betway Premiership on Wednesday, before taking on ZESCO United in the CAF Confederation Cup at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Sunday.
