Impi YamaSolja – The Song That Unites The Stormers

Renditions of the Stormers gathering post-match and belting out their team song, ‘Impi YamaSolja’, have been circulating on social media, with prop Sazi Sandi, who will soon earn his 50th cap, at the forefront of the celebrations.

“It’s a great thing to cap off a game. It unifies us, and it gives us that grounding feeling that we are all here together,” said Sandi.

“The song is a warcry,” Sandi mentioned.

“You’d normally sing the song before a game, but for us it’s the celebration saying, ‘Well done to the Impis of the Stormers – well done to the Stormers soldiers.’”

Sandi said he will always be at the stadium for home games – whether he’s playing or not – to lead the singing, adding that others can step in if he’s absent.

“If I’m not there, Hacjivah (Dayimani) or Seabelo (Senatla) can climb in. There are probably one or two other guys who can also take over.”

The Stormers have had more reason to sing it recently, following victories over the Vodacom Bulls and Dragons RFC.

“It’s lekker to sing it after a game because you know you went out there and you went to war. Just to come together at the end and sing it, you can see how happy the guys are from the videos because we know exactly what that song means to us personally,” Sandi added.

With the Stormers eyeing another victory against Edinburgh at DHL Stadium on Saturday, Sandi will be keen to clear his throat and lead the post-match festivities once again.
