Lights Out At FNB! Chiefs Overcome 30-Minute Power Failure To Crush Galaxy Hoodoo

Kaizer Chiefs secured a clinical 2-0 victory over TS Galaxy in a Betway Premiership clash at FNB Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The encounter was notably marked by a 30-minute delay due to a floodlight failure combined with heavy rainfall.

Chiefs came into the game looking to build on their previous three wins, and with this fourth consecutive victory, they remain third on the table with 42 points from 22 matches. They also have two games in hand as they continue their push for a CAF Confederation Cup spot next season.

Amakhosi were eager to overcome the Rockets, having last beaten them in June 2021 at Mbombela Stadium, when Samir Nurković scored the decisive first-half goal.

The goals for Chiefs were scored by Flávio Silva in the first half and Glody Lilepo in the second, sealing an important result in their quest for continental qualification.

The match also marked the return of Chiefs goalkeeper and captain Brandon Petersen, who had missed the last five matches, including the Soweto Derby, due to injury.

Following this win, Chiefs will be back in action on Wednesday when they face Magesi FC at Peter Mokaba Stadium in a second-round encounter, having recently beaten Dikwena Tsa Meetse.

Galaxy, meanwhile, extended their winless run to nine league matches. Their last victory came in January, when they defeated Marumo Gallants at home. The Rockets remain 12th on the table with 25 points from 24 matches and will return to action next Sunday against Richards Bay FC.

The Phefeni Glamour Boys started the match brightly, creating several chances in the opening half.

Their efforts paid off in the 35th minute when Da Silva headed home from the centre of the box into the bottom left corner, following a cross from Mduduzi Shabalala.

Early in the second half, the referee was forced to halt the match after the floodlights failed to come on, with rain also contributing to a delay of over 30 minutes before play resumed.

Despite the interruption, Chiefs maintained their momentum and continued to dominate proceedings.

Their persistence paid off in the 75th minute when Lilepo doubled the lead, racing onto a pass from Sibongiseni Mthethwa before curling the ball over Ira Tape, who had come off his line to block the danger.

Chiefs continued to press in the closing stages but were unable to add to their tally, as the match ended 2-0 in their favour.
