AmaZulu Sweep Past Milford To Lift Trophy at Princess Magogo Stadium
AmaZulu FC were crowned KZN Premier’s Cup champions after comfortably defeating newly promoted Milford FC 2-0 at Princess Magogo Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Interestingly, this marks Usuthu’s first victory in the provincial pre-season tournament—which is backed by the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Sport—since 2023, when they claimed the title under Pablo Franco Martin.
AmaZulu established control early, with Sandile Mthethwa breaking the deadlock in the 11th minute. The key central defender met Kgomotjo Lekoloane’s precise cross, powering a header across goal past a helpless Mfanufikile Madondo in the Milford net.
After providing the opener, Lekoloane turned scorer to double Usuthu’s advantage before halftime. Cutting inside from the wing, he released a curling effort that struck the inside of the post before nestling in the back of the net.
Milford struggled to find answers in the opening 45 minutes against a dominant Usuthu setup.
AmaZulu had a prime opportunity to make it 3-0 in the second half when they were awarded a penalty. However, Tebogo Mashigo was denied after Madondo dived brilliantly to his right to parry the spot-kick away.
Both clubs now turn their attention to the official kickoff of the 2026/27 domestic campaign next weekend. AmaZulu open their season away against Stellenbosch FC at Danie Craven Stadium on Saturday, while top-flight newcomers Milford travel to Johannesburg to face defending Betway Premiership champions Orlando Pirates at the Orlando Amstel Arena on the same day.
