Springboks Hailed After Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry Triumph
South African Rugby Union (SARU) President Mark Alexander paid tribute to Springbok head coach Rassie Erasmus and captain Siya Kolisi, praising them for continuing to raise the standard of SA Rugby following their victory in Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry.
The Boks defeated the All Blacks 43–28 in the final match of the four-Test series at M&T Bank Stadium on Saturday night to secure a 3–1 series win. Scrumhalf Morné van den Berg delivered a standout performance for South Africa, maintaining his unbeaten career record against New Zealand whenever he takes the field.
South Africa opened the iconic series with a defeat at Ellis Park before bouncing back with a victory in Cape Town. With the series level heading into the third Test at FNB Stadium, the Boks edged out a narrow win to take a 2–1 lead. They then sealed the series on Saturday in front of a USA rugby record crowd of over 68,000, the vast majority of whom were expatriate South Africans.

Since Erasmus took charge in 2018, this victory adds to an illustrious cabinet that includes two Rugby World Cups, three Rugby Championship titles, and a British & Irish Lions series win. The Boks will also head to Australia next year as firm favorites to target a third consecutive World Cup crown.
