Arrows Hand ‘Next Mbesuma’ A New Contract

Sportswire has been informed that Golden Arrows have extended the contract of powerful striker Lungelo Nguse by two years.

This website understands that the deal was concluded a few months ago, with Arrows showing immense faith in the striker whom former coach Steve Komphela once dubbed the next Collins Mbesuma.

The 27-year-old Vryheid-born striker joined Arrows ahead of the 2023/24 season from Baroka FC. Throughout his career, Nguse has featured in 53 matches across all competitions, scoring nine goals and providing two assists.

However, his progress was derailed when he suffered an ACL injury in October 2024 during the 2024/25 season—so severe that former co-coach Musa Bilankulu declared in January last year that Nguse would not play for the rest of that term.

Although he made his return last season, he was gradually eased back into action and missed Arrows’ final four matches (appearing on the bench for one of them) as the team secured a top-eight finish.

Overall, he featured in 14 matches across all competitions last season, scoring one goal and registering two assists.

Now, with a full pre-season under his belt, much will be expected from Nguse under coach Pitso Dladla.

Abafana Bes’Thende will start the 2026/27 season against Chippa United at King Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
