‘We Are Ready’: Former Orlando Pirates Star Outlines Ambitions

Durban City defender Bandile Shandu says the team is ready for its opening Betway Premiership clash of the 2026/27 season against Sekhukhune United, a match that could mark his official competitive debut for the club.

Shandu joined City after parting ways with defending league champions Orlando Pirates, where he helped the Buccaneers secure a domestic treble last season.

The experienced defender featured in City’s preseason fixtures and is now in line to make his competitive debut as the club begins its Betway Premiership campaign.

The 31-year-old has added valuable experience to a squad that will also compete in the CAF Confederation Cup after winning the 2025/26 Nedbank Cup.

Shandu will be hoping to start the new league season on a positive note when Durban City face Sekhukhune United at Seshego Stadium on Saturday.

“I think in terms of us focusing on what we need to do and what the coach wants, the results will take care of themselves,” said Shandu.

“I’m very excited to be back and be part of the first game. I think we are looking forward to it, and we are ready as a team.”

Shandu said the squad has developed a clear understanding of the coach’s expectations, leaving the players confident ahead of the new campaign.

“Yeah, we’ve got a great squad. We’ve been understanding the coach’s game model very well,” he said.

“I think even in our last game in the Premier’s Cup we did very well. We were just unfortunate to lose on penalties, but I think we achieved our objectives and played the way the coach wanted us to. We have a great squad, and I think we are ready.”
