Kingdom Stars Set To Clash with Defending Champs Fireballs In TNL 2026 Kickoff

KwaZulu-Natal’s pride and passion took centre stage as the Kingdom Stars and Kingdom Queens were officially unveiled and celebrated in a spirited send-off ahead of the 2026 Telkom Netball League, set to run from 24 April to 2 May at the Durban University of Technology (Steve Biko Campus).

The iconic Kingsmead Cricket Stadium came alive on Thursday afternoon, buzzing with excitement as players, coaches and stakeholders gathered for the occasion. A distinguished lineup of leaders attended, including MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture Mntomuhle Khawula, KZN Sports Confederation President Thami Mchunu, Netball South Africa President Mamie Diale, and KZN Netball President Gugu Ngema. They were joined by DSAC officials, stakeholders and government representatives, all united in support of the teams as they prepare for the journey ahead.

Delivering an inspiring address, MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture Mntomuhle Khawula applauded the teams for their dedication and commitment, urging them to carry the pride of the province with confidence and determination as they step onto the national stage. He extended his best wishes for the Telkom Netball League campaign, called on supporters to come out in numbers and fill the venue to capacity, and expressed appreciation to the mother body, Netball South Africa, for continuing to take the game closer to the people.

In a proud and symbolic gesture, MEC Khawula, alongside KZN Sports Confederation President Thami Mchunu, officially conferred provincial colours on the players—a significant milestone underscoring their hard work, commitment and excellence.

Gugu Ngema highlighted the importance of the tournament:
“The Telkom Netball League is an important platform for our players to shine and proudly represent the province, and it opens doors for national selection. I urge our athletes to go out there, give their best and embrace this opportunity. We also sincerely appreciate the trust that Netball South Africa continues to place in KwaZulu-Natal by hosting the tournament here back-to-back.”

As the countdown to the league begins, anticipation continues to build. The Kingdom Stars are set to open their campaign against defending champions, the Fireballs, in what promises to be a thrilling encounter.

All eyes will be on dynamic duo Nozipho Ntshangase and Thulisile Maduna, whose recent national call-ups have heightened expectations and excitement. Meanwhile, the Kingdom Queens will lean on the experience and leadership of captain Nolwazi Mathe, with the reliable Aphiwe Thusini bringing strength and composure under the posts.

Backed by strong partnerships and the unwavering support of KwaZulu-Natal, both teams are ready to compete with heart, resilience and purpose.
