Mosimane Names 30-Man Bafana Squad For AFCON Qualifiers & Egypt Friendly
Newly appointed Bafana Bafana head coach Pitso Mosimane has named a 30-man squad for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, as well as an international friendly scheduled for early next month.
Mosimane, who took over the reins last month, recalled Luther Singh and included veteran midfielder Themba Zwane. However, defender Khuliso Mudau misses out due to injury, with Kamogelo Sebelebele, Thapelo Morena, and recent Mamelodi Sundowns signing Thabang Matuludi called up to fill the void.
Rangers defender Olwethu Makhanya—who was part of South Africa’s 2026 FIFA World Cup squad without making an appearance—has also earned a call-up.
Mosimane, joining Stuart Baxter as one of the few managers appointed to a second stint in charge of Bafana Bafana, will lead the side for the first time in their AFCON qualifier against Guinea at Orlando Amstel Arena on 26 September. South Africa will then travel to Egypt to face Eritrea three days later.
Taking advantage of the extended FIFA international window, Bafana Bafana will wrap up the period with a friendly against Egypt at the Cairo International Stadium on 4 October.
