Loftus Is Full! Ticket Frenzy Hits Pretoria As Sundowns And Chiefs Prepare For Titanic Tussle

Mamelodi Sundowns’ highly anticipated clash with Kaizer Chiefs at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Wednesday will be played in front of a sold-out crowd.

With a 51,000-capacity sell-out, the gates will be opened at 15:00 to avoid the Pretoria rush-hour crush

Sundowns confirmed on Monday afternoon that all tickets for the fixture have been sold, as the CAF Champions League finalists look to strengthen their grip at the top of the Betway Premiership standings.

Chiefs, who played to a goalless draw in the reverse fixture at FNB Stadium, will be aiming to consolidate third place and secure qualification for next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.

The two sides head into the match in contrasting form. Sundowns thrashed Polokwane City 3–0 at Loftus on Sunday to move five points clear of rivals Orlando Pirates, while Chiefs suffered a 2–0 defeat to Bloemfontein Celtic in midweek.

Chiefs will also be chasing their first league win over Sundowns at Loftus since April 2021, when they triumphed under Gavin Hunt. Since then, Sundowns have won seven of the last eight league meetings between the sides.

However, Chiefs can draw confidence from their most recent visit to Loftus, where they defeated Sundowns 2–1 in the Nedbank Cup semi-final last season. They went on to lift the trophy, beating Orlando Pirates by the same scoreline at Moses Mabhida Stadium to end a 10-year trophy drought.

Meanwhile, Pirates—second on the table with 59 points from 26 matches—will also play in front of a full house when they visit Stellenbosch FC at Athlone Stadium on Tuesday.

The Soweto giants will be looking to close the gap on Sundowns, who lead the standings with 64 points from 27 matches, ahead of Wednesday’s blockbuster encounter.

If Pirates beat Stellenbosch on Tuesday, the gap will be just two points when Sundowns kick off against Chiefs on Wednesday
