Cape Town City And Milford Secure PSL Playoff Spots

Cape Town City FC and Milford FC have secured places in the PSL Promotion Playoffs after both teams finished in the top three of the Motsepe Foundation Championship standings on Sunday.
Cape Town City, who are aiming for an immediate return to the Betway Premiership following their relegation last season, finished second on the table with 54 points after defeating Leicesterford City 4-2 away from home. The Citizens also participated in the promotion playoffs last season but narrowly missed out on regaining their status after Orbit College won the playoff campaign.
Milford also finished the season on 54 points after playing to a goalless draw against Hungry Lions FC. However, the Stallions ended third due to an inferior goal difference compared to Cape Town City.
Hungry Lions were also in contention for a playoff spot but eventually finished fifth with 52 points. Casric Stars FC were another side still in the race and ended fourth on 52 points after defeating Gomora United 3-1.
The promotion playoffs will begin on 26 May, with Cape Town City hosting Milford in the opening fixture in Cape Town. The third team in the playoffs will be the side that finishes 15th in the Betway Premiership standings, with Magesi FC, Orbit College FC, Marumo Gallants, and Chippa United all still battling to avoid that position.
The winner of the playoffs will secure a place in next season’s Betway Premiership, while the remaining two teams will compete in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
Kruger United FC secured automatic promotion to the Betway Premiership after finishing as Motsepe Foundation Championship winners with 62 points following a 2-2 draw against The Bees FC in their final match of the season on Sunday.
In other final-day results, Baroka FC played to a goalless draw against Upington City FC, Lerumo Lions defeated Black Leopards 4-0, University of Pretoria FC thrashed Midlands Wanderers 6-2, while Venda Football Academy suffered a 2-1 defeat to Highbury FC.
Baroka and Black Leopards were relegated to the ABC Motsepe Regional Leagues following the conclusion of the season.
The two teams that will gain promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship are yet to be confirmed, with the ABC Motsepe League national playoffs scheduled to take place from 15 to 21 June in Mthatha.
