“He Would Go All Day Without Eating” – Naome Mofokeng On Bafana Star’s Incredible Journey

Relebohile Mofokeng’s mother, Naome Mofokeng, says she always believed her son would one day represent Bafana Bafana at a FIFA World Cup.
The Orlando Pirates star has also enjoyed an impressive 2025/26 Premier Soccer League campaign and has become one of Hugo Broos’ most trusted young players.
Mofokeng is among the exciting young talents that is representing South Africa at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Speaking on Game On with Thabiso Mosai, Naome said she always saw this moment coming and believes her son deserves all the success he is currently enjoying.
“To tell you the truth, I expected things to turn out this way because when I pray, I pray for him more than I pray for myself, and he deserves everything that is happening to him,” said Naome.
She added that the 21-year-old has always dreamed of playing professional football and fell in love with the game from a young age.
“He has always loved football,” Naome said.
“That is the sport he was always playing. He would spend the whole day without eating, and I would have to go looking for him at night. He would tell me that he had been somewhere playing football.”
Meanwhile, Mofokeng will be pushing for his first full World Cup start when Bafana Bafana face South Korea in their final Group A match in Monterrey on Thursday.
South Africa currently sit bottom of Group A, but a victory over South Korea would be enough to secure a place in the knockout stages alongside Mexico.
However, Bafana will also need Mexico to avoid defeat against Czechia to seal their progression.
