Sportswire has been reliably informed that Nedbank Cup champions Durban City have completed the double signing of Tashreeq Morris and Bandile Shandu with immediate effect.
The high-profile duo arrive in KwaZulu-Natal looking to revive their careers after being snapped up from Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, respectively. Both players endured frustratingly lean spells with the Soweto giants last term and will view the move to City as a clean slate.
For Morris, the move triggers an immediate reunion with head coach Khalil Ben Youssef. The Tunisian tactician—who recently took the reins at City to replace Lamontville Golden Arrows’ new coach, Pitso Dladla—coached Morris at Naturena last season alongside Cédric Kaze, steering Amakhosi to a third-place finish.
The 32-year-old forward will be eager to rediscover his goal-scoring touch in Durban after a quiet campaign at Chiefs, where he managed just a single goal in 14 appearances across all competitions.
Meanwhile, Shandu’s arrival marks an emotional homecoming. The 31-year-old versatile wing-back returns to the club where his professional journey began, having originally left the outfit ahead of the 2021/22 season when they still traded as Maritzburg United.
Shandu was an integral component of the famous 2017/18 Maritzburg United squad that reached the Nedbank Cup final under Fadlu Davids—making this a poetic return to a club infrastructure he knows inside out.
During his memorable first stint with the Team of Choice, Shandu racked up 162 appearances, contributing five goals and 12 assists.
He departed Pirates as a highly decorated serial winner. Despite seeing limited game time during the Buccaneers’ recent historic treble-winning campaign, Shandu left Mayfair with an impressive haul of three MTN8 titles, two Nedbank Cups, and a Betway Premiership medal.
In total, he featured 110 times for Pirates, netting 11 goals and providing five assists.
