“No Doubt About It”: Tuchel Drops Heavy Training Hint Ahead Of Argentina Blockbuster

England coach Thomas Tuchel has revealed that recovery, rather than intense training, will be the team’s main priority as they prepare for Wednesday night’s blockbuster FIFA World Cup semi-final against reigning champions Argentina in Atlanta.

The Three Lions booked their place in the last four after defeating Norway in the quarter-finals on Saturday, while Argentina secured their semi-final berth by overcoming Switzerland on Sunday. The two football heavyweights will now battle for a place in the World Cup final.

With only a few days to prepare for one of England’s biggest matches in recent years, Tuchel stressed that recovery will be vital following the physically demanding victory over Norway.

“The players have to recover, no doubt about it. The intensity of training will go down now because it’s all about recovery,” Tuchel said.

“Everyone is ready to attack the final eight days of the tournament. The next three days are crucial to make sure we’re ready.

“We have another flight ahead of us, but this victory and the feeling it brings will help us a lot. We have top-class facilities to recover at the highest level, and we’ll be ready.”

The semi-final will also add another chapter to one of the FIFA World Cup’s most storied rivalries.

England and Argentina have met five times previously at the tournament—in 1962, 1966, 1986, 1998 and 2002. Their most famous encounter came in the 1986 quarter-final, when Argentina claimed a 2-1 victory in a match forever remembered for Diego Maradona’s controversial “Hand of God” goal.

Reflecting on England’s quarter-final performance against Norway, Tuchel praised his players’ resilience, fighting spirit and belief but admitted there is still room for improvement despite reaching the semi-finals.

“Absolutely, no one disputes that. I am impressed with the shift they put in, the effort, the team spirit and the belief,” he said.

“The belief to overcome adversity, to dig in and find ways to win is at the absolute highest level.

“They cannot receive enough praise for that. But I’m also a football coach, and I think we can play better overall. I don’t think it was a high-quality game. I believe we’ve produced better performances in this tournament.

“There were a lot of momentum swings for both teams. So, yes, full credit to the players. We found a way to win, and we’re in the last four. That is, of course, the most important thing.

“But the analyst in me and the football coach in me still believe we can, and we have to, play better football.”

England will hope to produce that improved performance when they take on Argentina on Wednesday night, with a place in the FIFA World Cup final on the line.

The winner will face either France or Spain, who meet in the other semi-final on Tuesday, in the showpiece final of the global tournament.
