Clubs Hand Over Sports Equipment Ahead Of KZN Premier’s Cup
The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (KZN DSAC), in partnership with the six clubs participating in the 2026 KZN Premier’s Cup, officially launched a three-day Corporate Social Investment (CSI) programme on Tuesday aimed at strengthening grassroots sport and leaving a lasting legacy in local communities ahead of the tournament.
The initiative forms part of the build-up to the 2026 KZN Premier’s Cup, which will be staged on Saturday and Sunday at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium in Clermont and Princess Magogo Stadium in KwaMashu.
While the tournament will showcase some of KwaZulu-Natal’s top football talent, organisers have emphasised that the event is about far more than the action on the pitch. The CSI programme is designed to inspire young people, promote healthy lifestyles and support school sport by providing much-needed resources to learners across the province.
As part of the initiative, six schools across the eThekwini Metro will each receive complete football and netball kits, training apparel and essential sporting equipment. The donations are intended to strengthen school sport programmes and create greater opportunities for young athletes to develop their talents in a supportive environment.
The campaign got underway on Tuesday morning when Richards Bay FC visited Christiansburg Primary School in Clermont, near Pinetown, where players and club representatives handed over sports equipment and interacted with learners. The visit gave pupils the opportunity to engage with professional footballers, who encouraged them to remain committed to both their education and sporting ambitions.
Later in the day, AmaZulu FC continued the initiative with a visit to Nhlakanipho High School in KwaMashu. In addition to donating sporting equipment, the club hosted a motivational session focusing on discipline, teamwork, perseverance and the importance of balancing academic responsibilities with sporting aspirations.
Senior officials from the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education attended the programme and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting initiatives that promote the holistic development of learners. They highlighted the vital role that sport plays in developing discipline, leadership, resilience and teamwork—qualities that not only benefit learners on the playing field but also contribute positively to their academic performance and personal growth.
The CSI programme will continue over the next two days, with the remaining participating clubs each visiting a school within the province.
On Wednesday, Midlands Wanderers FC will visit Umqhele High School in KwaMashu, while Durban City FC will hand over equipment at Buhlebemfundo Secondary School in Umlazi.
The programme will conclude on Thursday, when Milford FC visits Nqabakazulu High School in KwaMashu, while Lamontville Golden Arrows will complete the initiative with a visit to Tholamandla Primary School in the KwaMashu/Inanda area.
The KZN Department of Sport, Arts and Culture believes the initiative will leave a meaningful legacy beyond the tournament by equipping schools with resources that encourage greater participation in sport, while inspiring young learners to pursue excellence both in the classroom and on the field.
The 2026 KZN Premier’s Cup promises to deliver exciting football over the weekend, but organisers hope that the tournament’s greatest victory will be the positive impact it leaves in communities through investment in grassroots sport and youth development.
