PSL Shift Chiefs vs Siwelele Kick-off Time For Sundowns Super Cup Final

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has pushed back the kick-off time for Sunday’s Carling Knockout quarter-final between Kaizer Chiefs and Siwelele from 15:00 to 18:00 at Peter Mokaba Stadium.
The three-hour delay avoids a direct broadcast clash with Mamelodi Sundowns‘ CAF Super Cup final against USM Alger at Loftus Versfeld, where a $500,000 (R9-million) winner’s purse is on the line.
Why Did the PSL Change the Kaizer Chiefs vs Siwelele Kick-off Time?
Chiefs were originally scheduled to take on Siwelele in Polokwane at 15:00 on Sunday afternoon. However, that schedule created a direct conflict with the continental showpiece in Pretoria between Sundowns and USM Alger, which CAF had locked into the 15:00 slot months in advance.
Supporters expressed widespread frustration on social media, questioning why two of the biggest fixtures on the South African football calendar were set to overlap.
Following joint consultations between the PSL executive, Kaizer Chiefs, and Siwelele, league officials agreed to shift the Carling Knockout clash to an 18:00 kick-off. The decision ensures football fans can watch both matches sequentially without missing any action.
What is at Stake in Mamelodi Sundowns’ CAF Super Cup Final?
The adjustment allows South African football lovers to give full attention to Sundowns’ pursuit of continental glory. Masandawana qualified for the one-off final after winning last season’s CAF Champions League, while Algerian side USM Alger enter as CAF Confederation Cup holders.
Financial rewards for the clash at Loftus Versfeld are significant:
- Winner: $500,000 (~R9 million)
- Runner-up: $250,000 (~R4.5 million)
Sundowns previously won the CAF Super Cup in 2017 under former head coach Pitso Mosimane, defeating TP Mazembe 1-0 at Loftus Versfeld.
Meanwhile, the late kick-off at Peter Mokaba Stadium will conclude Sunday’s action, with the winner between Chiefs and Siwelele booking a spot in the Carling Knockout semi-finals.
