“A Dream Come True” – Emotional Loftus Return for Springbok Star Ahead Of Brutal Scotland Clash

Springbok tighthead prop Wilco Louw is relishing the opportunity to return to familiar surroundings at Loftus Versfeld this weekend, describing every chance to wear the green and gold as “a dream come true” ahead of South Africa’s Test against a formidable Scotland side.

With several Bulls players included in the Springbok matchday squad, the Pretoria venue will have a familiar feel for Louw, who has called Loftus home for the past three seasons.

“Loftus has been home for three years for me, and it’s a special place to play,” Louw said.

“We’ve got incredible memories there, and it will be a tough battle. Scotland beat Argentina convincingly.”

Despite his growing experience at Test level, the 31-year-old said the privilege of representing South Africa has never lost its significance.

“It’s a nice opportunity to play again in the green and gold. It’s a massive honour, and it’s still a dream come true every time you get another opportunity to put on the jersey.”

Louw added that the Springbok squad remains fully focused on the challenge ahead.

“Collectively, everyone is focused on their role.”

The Bulls front-rower believes his experience in the United Rugby Championship against Scottish opposition could prove valuable, having faced both Edinburgh and Glasgow Warriors on numerous occasions.

“The URC is an incredible competition, and most games are close to Test level,” he said.

“We’ve played them in Scotland and at Loftus, and we’ve had mixed results in both places. It’s a good opportunity to play against them and scrum against their boys.”

While Scotland-based Boan Venter has joined the Springbok setup and has first-hand knowledge of several Scottish players, Louw said the team’s focus remains firmly on maintaining its own standards rather than relying on inside information.

“Boan knows the boys, but we focus on ourselves and what we want to achieve on Saturday, whether it’s in the scrums, under the high ball or in any other facet of the game.”

Louw expects Scotland’s forward pack to provide one of the toughest challenges of the season, particularly after their dominant scrum performance in their convincing victory over Argentina.

“I worked with Pieter de Villiers, their scrum coach, who is a very good scrum coach,” Louw explained.

“They have quality players in their front row and throughout their pack. They are a physical side, and if you look at the tries they scored against Argentina, many of them came from their forwards and their direct style of play.”

The experienced prop also highlighted the quality within Scotland’s squad, many of whom recently featured for the British & Irish Lions.

“There are so many British & Irish Lions players. It’s going to be a tough one, and they will definitely step up.”

With the Springboks looking to continue building momentum in front of a packed Loftus Versfeld crowd, Louw believes the battle up front will be decisive as South Africa prepares for another bruising encounter against one of the northern hemisphere’s most physical teams.
