Team KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) has once again made the province proud after being crowned national champions at the National Golden Games, finishing at the top of the standings with an impressive 588 points.

The province’s Golden Stars delivered an outstanding performance, showcasing their talent, determination and competitive spirit to secure the coveted national title ahead of Gauteng and Limpopo.

Their achievement is a testament to the hard work, dedication and commitment of the participants, who continue to demonstrate that age is no barrier to sporting excellence. Through their performances, the KZN team embodied the true spirit of active ageing, proving that passion, fitness and a competitive spirit can thrive at any stage of life.

The National Golden Games, held in Mangaung in the Free State, brought together older persons from across the country to compete in various sporting codes and recreational activities. The event provided participants with an opportunity to showcase their abilities, promote healthy lifestyles and celebrate the importance of remaining physically and socially active as they grow older.

KZN’s impressive points tally saw them finish comfortably ahead of their closest challengers, Gauteng, who accumulated 498 points to claim second place. Limpopo finished third with 435 points.

The results highlighted the province’s dominance at this year’s competition, with the Golden Stars demonstrating consistency and determination throughout the event.

The National Golden Games play an important role in encouraging older persons to embrace active and healthy lifestyles while creating opportunities for social interaction, friendship and community participation.

For Team KZN, however, the victory represents much more than a trophy. It is recognition of the participants’ dedication, perseverance and the support of everyone involved in preparing the team for the national competition.

With 588 points secured, KwaZulu-Natal can proudly celebrate another memorable achievement on the national stage.

Their message is clear: age is gold, and gold is KZN.
