Al Ahly To Meet Sundowns In The CAFCL Semi-Finals With Al-Hilal Scalp

Defending champions Al Ahly advanced to the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League after claiming a 1-0 victory over Sudanese giants Al-Hilal Omdurman in the second leg of their quarterfinals clash in Mauritania on Tuesday night.
Star attacker Emam Ashour scored the decisive goal to put the tie to bed in the 80th minute after the two sides were heavily deadlocked trying to find the opening goal. The 27-year-old winger ended Florent Ibenge’s hopes of guiding the Sudanese further in the competition.
The Egyptian powerhouse made it 2-0 on the aggregate scoreline after securing a 1-0 win on home soil through Mohamed Hany’s first-half strike in the first leg of the encounter in Cairo last week, the Red Devils a slight advantage into the return leg.
Marcell Koller’s charges will now renew their rivalry with South African champions Mamelodi Sundowns in the semi-finals of Africa’s elite club competition after the Brazilians edged Tunisian giants Esperance de Tunis 1-0 over the two legs.
The record 12-time African champions will be on the road in the first leg of their meeting against Miguel Cardoso’s troops on 18 April, before hosting the second leg in Cairo on 25 April with a spot in the final on the line.
