AmaZulu Coach Praises Ex-Pirates’ Hat-Trick Performance

AmaZulu co-coach Vusi Vilakazi expressed his delight with defender Sandile Mthethwa’s performance, which included a first-career hat-trick against Mighty Eagles in the Nedbank Cup.

Mthethwa’s three goals, coupled with strikes from Mlondi Mbanjwa and Etiosa Ighodaro, secured Usuthu’s victory in the round of 32 at King Zwelithini Stadium on Tuesday. The draw for the round of 16 is scheduled for Wednesday.

This was Mthethwa’s first start, having joined Usuthu in November after being released by Orlando Pirates, where he had limited playing time.

“I think it will boost his confidence,” said Vilakazi.

“We know very well that he’s been struggling with game time because he was not playing that much.

“But with the quality that he has, you can’t question it and we were happy that he finished the 90 minutes today because we were anticipating that he might come across with cramps, but he did well.

“But also scoring three goals will boost his confidence because we really need him in the team, he will add a value in our setup.

“I think I’m happy for him that he scored three goals and got the man of the match.”

Regarding the absence of new striker Elmo Kambindu, who joined Chippa United during the January transfer window, Vilakazi explained, “We are still waiting for his work permit to be issued. He might be available; he might not be available in the next game.”

AmaZulu’s next fixture is against SuperSport United in the Betway Premiership at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday at 20:00.
