AmaZulu Lose Technical Member To Reunite With Benni

AmaZulu is poised to lose a key member of their technical team, as Pilela Maposa is set to reunite with coach Benni McCarthy at the Kenyan national team.
Reports from Kenya indicate that McCarthy will be announced as the new Kenyan coach, with the official presentation scheduled for Monday. Maposa, AmaZulu’s head analyst, has been recruited by McCarthy to join his technical staff.

Maposa previously worked with McCarthy at AmaZulu from 2020 to 2022. Prior to that, he served as an analyst at Free State Stars, playing a crucial role in their 2017/18 Nedbank Cup victory.

During their time together at AmaZulu, with Maposa’s analytical support, McCarthy led the team to their highest-ever PSL finish—second place in the 2020/21 season—and secured qualification for the CAF Champions League group stages. However, McCarthy was dismissed in March 2022 after struggling to balance continental and domestic commitments, citing player fatigue and the need for squad replenishment.
Since McCarthy’s departure, AmaZulu has struggled to replicate that success, finishing outside the top eight in the past two seasons.
While McCarthy’s appointment as Kenyan coach will be confirmed on Monday, Maposa will not be present at the announcement. He is expected to remain with AmaZulu until 15 March, before the international break.
In addition to Maposa, McCarthy has also recruited other familiar faces from his time at AmaZulu and Cape Town City.
Moneeb Josephs will serve as goalkeeper coach, and Vasili Manousakis will be his assistant coach. Manousakis has resigned from his assistant coach position at Cape Town Spurs. Josephs, who played alongside McCarthy at Orlando Pirates and was later brought to AmaZulu, was unattached.
