AmaZulu Part Ways With Six Players

AmaZulu has released six players, including Veli Mothwa, Abbubaker Mobara, Boniface Haba, and Rowan Human.

There are uncertainties surrounding Human’s departure. Despite his impressive performance during the past season, which saw AmaZulu finish sixth, he is rumored not to be part of coach Arthur Zwane’s plans for the upcoming season, according to Sportswire.

This aligns with coach Zwane asserting his influence after Usuthu president Sandile Zungu confirmed Zwane would be in charge next season.

Mobara, who has had previous issues with coaches at AmaZulu, was suspended by the club after a dressing-room clash with coach Zwane. He was suspended alongside Celimpilo Ngema, with whom AmaZulu later parted ways due to off-field issues.

Although Mobara was reinstated, he hasn’t played for the club since March, when AmaZulu lost 2-1 to TS Galaxy at King Zwelithini Stadium. That marked his last involvement with AmaZulu, having featured in 70 matches for the club, scoring one goal and providing three assists.

Much was anticipated from Haba, who joined AmaZulu at the start of last season from Olympic Safi in Guinea. The Durban-based side had high hopes that he would significantly impact their attacking play. The 29-year-old, a six-time league winner in Guinea with Sofi, made only eight appearances for AmaZulu. His last involvement was in March against Mamelodi Sundowns, where he remained on the bench.

Mothwa, the club’s captain, fell out of favour as the preferred goalkeeper following the arrival of Richard Ofori, who was released by Orlando Pirates. The 34-year-old played just seven matches last term, with his last appearance in April when AmaZulu defeated Golden Arrows at Mpumalanga Stadium.

These departures at AmaZulu follow that of Wayde Jooste, as previously reported. Meanwhile, Etiosa Ighodaro, who was on loan from Sundowns last season, will return to his parent club after scoring six goals in 27 appearances.
