AmaZulu Thump Sorry Looking Richards Bay

AmaZulu added further pain to Richards Bay by thrashing them 3-1 in the Betway Premiership match at King Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday.

Bay came to this game having changed the coach after firing Brandon Truter on Thursday, following the loss to Kaizer Chiefs on Wednesday.

Chairman Sifiso Biyela instructed Sibusiso Msomi, Ronnie Gabriel and Siboniso Gumede to look after the club’s affairs interim while they are looking for a new coach.

Sometimes a new voice in the dressing room can have a huge positive impact on the players, but it was not on this occasion. They found the Usuthu side that was lying at the bottom of the table and desperate to climb uo the ladder.

Rowan Human powered Usuthu ahead in the first half, getting on the end of the cut back of Tshepang Moremi. Usuthu continued to get chances but failed to capitalize.

Moremi was wasteful as he should have scored the second for Usuthu in the 40th minute but his shot was saved by the Kenyan goalkeeper Ian Otieno, even though he almost made a mistake. The first half ended 1-0 in favor of AmaZulu.

Rich Boyz introduced Thando Buthelezi and Langelihle Mhlongo for Siyethemba Sithebe and Moses Mthembu before the second half started, aiming to get back in the game.

The first 10 minutes of the game saw both teams getting so many chances, but they failed to score at least one goal each with their chances. However, Etiosa Ighodaro increased the score with the second goal for Usuthu in the 66th minute with a bullet header from Wayde Jooste’s free kick. The Bafana Bafana midfielder Ethan Brooks made it 3-0 for AmaZulu in the 68th minute, slipping the ball at the near post after he was clean through.

Bay, who kept on putting up a fight, were rewarded for their efforts when Yanela Mbuthuma scored in the referee’s option time after the ball got spilled in inside the box and the youngster finished off aplomb for what was a consolation on the night. It was Mbuthuma’s second goal in consecutive matches, having also scored as they lost 2-1 to Chiefs midweek.

Following this loss, Bay has slumped to the bottom of the Betway Premiership table and AmaZulu have climbed up to 14th in the table.
