Arrows Bounce Back, Khenyeza Relieved After Crucial Win

Golden Arrows coach Mabhuti Khenyeza was relieved to see his side return to winning ways after a five-match winless streak. They achieved this by defeating Royal AM 3-2 at Harry Gwala Stadium in the Betway Premiership on Tuesday night.

Arrows fought back from a deficit to secure the victory. This match took place amidst a challenging backdrop, as Royal AM chairperson Shauwn Mkhize’s home was raided by SARS earlier in the day.

The win was a much-needed boost for Arrows, who had suffered losses to Magesi, Sekhukhune United, Mamelodi Sundowns, Chippa United, and SuperSport United in recent matches. This victory moved them up to seventh place in the table with 10 points from seven games, level with sixth-placed Sekhukhune United.

“It’s great for the players to win again,” said Khenyeza, who appeared hoarse after the match. “Credit to the players; they’ve been working hard. The team was balanced and performed well.”

Midfielder Velemseni Ndwandwe, who has been sidelined due to injuries, was named Man of the Match for his impressive performance.

The match was almost canceled due to a major accident on the N3 highway, which caused significant traffic delays for both teams and match officials. The game, originally scheduled for 19:30, eventually kicked off at 21:00.

Arrows will face Cape Town City at home on Sunday. City, currently 14th in the table with five points from five matches, have only managed one win so far, against SuperSport United.

“This game against Royal AM was draining. We can’t get too excited. We need to stay focused,” warned Khenyeza. “We only have 48 hours to celebrate before shifting our attention to the next game.”
