Arrows Move Chiefs Match At The Moses Mabhida

Golden Arrows have moved their upcoming Betway Premiership match against Kaizer Chiefs to Moses Mabhida Stadium next Saturday, hoping to secure their third consecutive victory over the Soweto Giants at the same venue.
Venue Change and Rationale
The match, originally scheduled for August 30 at King Zwelithini Stadium, was relocated to accommodate the anticipated large crowd. The move is a strategic one, as Chiefs have been in excellent form, winning their first three league matches of the season—a feat they haven’t achieved since their 2014/15 league-winning campaign under Stuart Baxter.
With the Soweto Giants currently riding a wave of momentum, the smaller King Zwelithini Stadium would likely not be able to handle the high attendance.
A Favorable Venue for Golden Arrows
Despite Chiefs’ strong start to the season, Golden Arrows will be confident heading into the match. They defeated Chiefs twice last season, and both of those victories took place at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
- In January, Arrows secured their first-ever win over Chiefs at the venue with a stunning 56th-minute goal from Gladwin Shitolo in a 1-0 victory that saw Chiefs’ coach Nasreddine Nabi sent off.
- They completed the double over Chiefs at the same venue on 29 March, with goals from Nduduzo Sibiya and Knox Mutizwa sealing the win, despite a late consolation goal from Chiefs’ Yusuf Maart.
These past performances suggest that the stadium provides a significant home advantage for Abafana Bes’Thende when facing Chiefs.
Coaching and Team Updates
In other news, Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has been absent for the team’s first three league matches after his wife was involved in a car accident in Tunisia.
He is expected to return for their next match against Mamelodi Sundowns at Lucas Moripe Stadium next Wednesday.
Arrows will also be in action on the same day, hosting Magesi FC at King Zwelithini Stadium.
