Stellenbosch To Face Pirates In The MTN8 Final

The MTN8 final will be a repeat of last season’s championship match, as Stellenbosch and Orlando Pirates have both secured their spots.

Stellenbosch advanced after a 1-1 draw with Sekhukhune United, winning their semi-final tie 3-1 on aggregate at New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

They will now face an Pirates side that eliminated Mamelodi Sundowns in a 4-1 penalty shootout.

Stellenbosch showcased resilience and experience to book their third final appearance in three seasons. Despite Sekhukhune United’s aggressive start and dominance in the first half, Stellenbosch’s defense held strong.

The decisive moment came in the 21st minute when Mthetheleli Mthiyane capitalized on a defensive error, scoring from outside the box to extend Stellenbosch’s aggregate lead to 3-0.

Although Sekhukhune United found a late goal through Siphesihle Mkhize in the 65th minute, Stellenbosch, led by coach Steve Barker, maintained their composure to secure the draw and advance.

The final is scheduled for 13 September, with the venue likely to be Moses Mabhida Stadium, which has hosted the last four MTN8 finals. The stage is set for a thrilling rematch between two of the league’s most consistent cup teams.
