Belgium, Ukraine Draw, Both Advance to Euro Knockouts

Belgium and Ukraine played out a tense 0-0 draw at Stuttgart Arena on Wednesday, but both secured their spots in the Euro 2024 knockout stages.

This historic result marks the first time all teams in a group finished with four points after three games.

Both sides entered the final group match needing at least a draw to progress. Belgium, with a single change from their previous lineup, started brightly. Romelu Lukaku spurned an early chance from Kevin De Bruyne’s pass. News of Slovakia leading against Romania initially added pressure, but Romania’s equalizer eased Belgium’s concerns. The first half produced few clear-cut chances.

The second half mirrored the first, with tactical adjustments made by both teams. Carrasco, a second-half substitute for Belgium, almost set up De Bruyne, but his effort went in vain. Ukraine also threatened, forcing a save from Koen Casteels with a curling corner.

Despite the goalless draw, both Belgium and Ukraine advanced. Belgium will face France in the Round of 16, while Ukraine’s next opponent is yet to be determined. This match, filled with tactical intrigue and tense moments, exemplified the unpredictable nature of tournament football. But still baffling why there wasn’t any goal because it was a lively encounter.
