Ben Youssef: We Didn’t Promise Anyone To Win Trophy

Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef has vowed that Amakhosi will continue to fight and possibly sign new players in the next transfer window, but emphasized that they won’t put too much pressure on themselves as they didn’t promise to win a trophy.
This comes after the team drew 0-0 with Chippa United in the Betway Premiership match on Wednesday.
Ben Youssef’s comments come as Chiefs also sit in fifth position in the Betway Premiership with 23 points in 12 games played. In the CAF Confederation Cup, the Phefeni Glamour Boys are third in Group D with just one point.
Despite the team’s current situation, Ben Youssef remains optimistic about their chances.
“The target in the CAF competition, as it has been quite some time not playing in this competition, the first step was to be in the group stage, and we did that,” he said.
“The next goal now is to take one game at a time, we don’t have to put a lot of pressure, and maybe we should decide about making a recruitment because almost 90% of our players are players from last season.
“We have to work, and we have to believe, and we don’t have to put a lot of pressure on ourselves because we didn’t promise to win a trophy. But we’re indeed playing for the trophy every time.”
Ben Youssef added that the team has made significant progress from last season, where they finished ninth, and aims to at least finish in the top four.
“Last season we were number nine, so we have to finish at least in the top four,” he added.
“But if we get one opportunity to win the trophy, we will fight for the trophy, and we will continue to build step by step, and we don’t have to put a lot of pressure.
“We’ll continue to fight, work, and it’s a process. It’s not easy from where we were and now where we are, and we have to continue to work, and everything is coming to an end. We have to work, and we have to believe.”
Chiefs have had a disappointing season so far, missing out on the MTN8 and losing in the round of 16 in the Carling Knockout.
The titles that are left to lift for Chiefs are the league, Confederation Cup, and Nedbank Cup, of which they won the latter last season. The team will play their last game of 2025 this Sunday against TS Galaxy at Mbombela Stadium.
