Boardroom Brawl: SAFA Suspends Four Top Officials

The South African Football Association (SAFA) has officially confirmed the suspension of four National Executive Committee (NEC) members: Gladwyn White, Monde Montshiwa, Orapeleng Setlhare, and Emma Hendrick.

The official announcement follows an exclusive report by Sportswire earlier this month, which detailed a confrontation at SAFA House where the four members allegedly disrupted an NEC meeting.

Escalation at SAFA House

The suspensions stem from a heated incident where security guards initially barred the members from the boardroom. Once granted entry, tensions reportedly boiled over; witnesses alleged that one member pointed a finger at SAFA President Danny Jordaan, who was seated with NEC colleagues Nastasia Chiklas and Bennett Bailey.

In a notable development, the Dawid Kruiper Local Football Association has already come out in support of Ms. Hendrick’s suspension.

The Official Statement

In a statement released on Saturday, the Association confirmed the timeline of the disciplinary action:

“Following a resolution by the Emergency Committee on 13 March 2026, four members of the NEC were suspended with immediate effect. This decision was subsequently ratified by the NEC on 21 March 2026 through a round-robin process.”

The suspended members are:

  • Mr. Gladwyn White
  • Mr. Monde Montshiwa
  • Mr. Orapeleng Setlhare
  • Ms. Emma Hendrick

According to the directive, these individuals lose all membership rights and are prohibited from accessing SAFA premises, systems, or performing any official duties pending the outcome of their disciplinary hearings.

Election Fever and Governance

While SAFA maintained that these measures are necessary to safeguard “integrity and transparency,” the move comes at a politically sensitive time. The Association is currently preparing for its Presidential Electoral Congress this September.

Incumbent President Danny Jordaan is expected to run for a fourth term in office, and these internal fractures come as these individuals are against him running.

Despite the boardroom turmoil, SAFA noted that national team preparations remain a priority. Several junior and senior squads are currently in camp preparing for upcoming international tournaments.
