Botswana Premiership Side Interested In SA Coach

Botswana FNB Premiership side Extension Gunners have added South African coach Selaotse ‘Sly’ Mosala to their shortlist of potential candidates to lead the team in the dugout next season, Sportswire has established.
This comes after Chief Ally Kgomongwe took over the club on a 15-year-long partnership that will see him assume 100% control of the team, having acquired the stake in the middle of the 2024/25 campaign.
Under his leadership, Gunners impressively pulled themselves from the relegation zone to finish the term in 13th place with 29 points amassed from 30 league outings, consisting of eight wins, five draws, and 17 defeats.
Moreover, in his short stint in charge, Kgomongwe played a crucial role in clearing the team’s outstanding debts, in addition to recruiting key seasoned professionals, who aided his vision to save the club’s top-flight status.
Amidst the structural changes, the attention has now shifted to finding a full-time head coach as Mike Sithole was shown the exit door mid-season, before Proper Monnawanoka also departed the club before the end of last season.
Kgomongwe’s first choice, Mthunzi Ginidza, lacked the CAF A License to coach in the top tier, prompting the hierarchy to court Mosala, who has accumulated experience in his native country and Eswatini with Mbabane Highlanders, now owned by former Royal AM boss Shauwn ‘MaMkhize’ Mkhize.
The South African tactician held posts at TS Sporting and the University of Pretoria reserve team as a head coach.
Furthermore, Mosala served as a scout at Polokwane City before an assistant coach role at Black Leopards, the now-defunct Free State Stars, Pretoria Callies, Sekhukhune United, and Marumo Gallants.
Mosala was part of the technical team that guided Ea Lia Koto to the 2017/18 Nedbank Cup title under controversial mentor Luc Eymael, before steering the Eswatini giants Highlanders to the CAF Confederation Cup in 2022.
Now, the UEFA A License holder is currently in the books of Motsepe Foundation Championship outfit Casric Stars as an assistant coach, having been installed in the role in August 2024. He is the second in command to Bucs Mthombeni following the departure of Sundra Govinder.
Gunners are understood to have made contact over the services of the experienced coach, and while sources have suggested talks are in the early stages, there is a great sense of optimism that an agreement can be struck between all parties involved.
