Broos Shifts Focus To Zimbabwe

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos says the upcoming AFCON clash against Zimbabwe is a must-win game, following their 1-0 loss to Egypt on Friday.

Bafana will play their last group stage match against Zimbabwe at Stade de Marrakech on Monday, where a win or a draw will be enough for them to secure a spot in the knockout round.

Broos’ side currently occupies second spot in Group B with the three points they opened the tournament with the 2-1 victory against Angola on Monday.

South Africa lost due to a controversial penalty that was awarded to Egypt, and Mohammed Salah scored from the spot.

The Belgian tactician stated that they are going to win against Zimbabwe, with motivation coming from the loss against Egypt.

“We know that we have to win to be sure,” said Broos.

“We’re going to win. We’re super motivated because we’re all frustrated with the game, so on Monday we’ll be ready to go for it and try to beat Zimbabwe.”

When asked about the preparations for the game against the Warriors, Broos noted that the period is short, but he promised a victory against them, although it will be difficult.

“There are only two days, so I don’t have much time,” Broos stated.

“The first thing you have to do is not think about Friday’s game, it’s finished, and you can’t change anything anymore.”

This will be a second meeting between Bafana Bafana and The Warriors in less three months after they played to a goalless drew during the World Cup Qualifiers in October.

“From Saturday morning, we have to focus on what will happen on Monday. We know that we have the qualities to beat Zimbabwe,” added Broos.

“Zimbabwe has one point, and they’ll be thinking the same thing. It’s always a difficult game for us, but we’re a confident team, and because we lost doesn’t mean the confidence is gone.

“We’ll be ready on Monday, I can assure you, and we’ll try to win that game, and if we win that game, we’re in the second round,” Bross added.
