Can Bay Complete The Double Over Soweto Giants? Zothwane Replies.

Richards Bay co-coach Papi Zothwane says he is not putting his side under pressure ahead of their clash with Orlando Pirates, despite the possibility of completing a double over the Soweto giants.

The Natal Rich Boys defeated Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 last week at a packed Umhlathuze Sports Complex on Tuesday, moving up to ninth place in the Betway Premiership with 23 points after 19 matches.

They now face another Soweto giant, league leaders Orlando Pirates, at Orlando Amstel Arena on Wednesday [19:30].

Richards Bay has previously enjoyed success at the venue, winning a league match there during the 2023/24 season.

On that occasion, Sanele Barns scored the winning goal in May 2024.

Zothwane, a former classy midfielder during his playing career, was asked whether his team could complete a double over the Soweto giants after beating Chiefs.

“I don’t want to put ourselves under pressure,” said Zothwane.

“But we will take each game as it comes. Every match we play, we aim to win, and we will give them a good fight for sure.”

The upcoming fixture will be the first league meeting between the two sides this season. However, they did face each other earlier in the campaign in the Carling Knockout semi-final in November last year at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Pirates won that match 1-0 thanks to a 42nd-minute goal from Tshepang Moremi.
