Cardoso Shifts Focus To CAFCL Final After Securing League Title

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso is primed to turn his focus to the looming CAF Champions League final against Egyptian side Pyramids FC after marshalling the Brazilians to an eighth successive league title.
Masandawana asserted their dominance once again, making it 15 championships in the PSL era, followed by the two Soweto giants, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs, who have both managed to clinch four titles.
With one match left before wrapping up their domestic duties, the Tshwane giants are currently on 70 points at the summit of the table. They have a record of 63 goals scored in a single PSL campaign and the fewest goals conceded, with 13.
Now, having secured the inaugural Betway Premiership title, Cardoso has switched his attention to bringing back continental glory at Chloorkop, with the ambitious Cairo-based outfit standing between them and a second star on their crest.
“I will start thinking about the Champions League now, I will. It doesn’t mean that we will not prepare the next match to win, of course we will, even because Magesi has been doing well in the last games so we will have to take care of that because we want to finish the league in the best way in front of our fans,” the Portuguese mentor said.
“But I will now obviously start preparing for the Champions League, but I know that my people are working on it because that’s the way we prepare. They are also working on the FIFA Club World Cup, but about the World Cup, we don’t worry at all.
“But now I have time to start watching some games from the Pyramids, but let’s also keep an eye on ourselves because that’s also the most important thing for sure.”
Sundowns will host Magesi FC in their penultimate domestic match of the 2024/25 campaign at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Sunday (17:30). Having set a new PSL record of nine league doubles in a single campaign, Cardoso’s charges are poised for a 10th league double this season.
