Chiefs And Durban City Discover CAF Confed Cup Opponents

Kaizer Chiefs and Durban City FC have discovered their path in the upcoming CAF Confederation Cup following the official draw for the preliminary rounds.

Amakhosi, who reached the group stage of the competition last season, received a first-round bye as one of the eight highest-ranked clubs in the tournament based on CAF’s five-year ranking system.

Chiefs will begin their campaign in the second preliminary round against the winner of the first-round fixture between Zambia’s Red Arrows and Madagascar’s FC Rouge.

In contrast, Durban City will make their historical debut in continental football after securing qualification by winning the Nedbank Cup last term. City will take on Burundi’s Rukinzu FC in a two-legged first preliminary round tie.

The first preliminary round legs will take place on 4-6 September, with the return legs scheduled for 11-13 September. The winners will advance to join the eight exempted teams in the second preliminary round.

Those second preliminary round first-leg ties are set for 16-18 October, followed by the decisive second legs on 23-25 October to determine the 32-club line-up moving forward in the competition. The winners of the second preliminary rounds will advance to the Confed Cup group stages.

The match of the group stages is scheduled for 27-29 November.
