Chiefs & Sundowns Lose While Pirates Stay Top In Diski Challenge

Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns lost ground as they both suffered defeats in the DStv Diski Challenge this weekend, while Orlando Pirates remained comfortably at the top despite not being in action.

Chiefs’ difficult run in the competition continued as the Phefeni Glamour Boys went down 1-0 to AmaZulu at Seshego Stadium on Sunday.

The defending champions came into the match on the back of two defeats and a draw, and the loss to Usuthu means they have now lost three consecutive games this season.

Despite the setback, coach Vela Khumalo’s charges are still placed fifth on the standings with 27 points after 18 matches. Since the start of 2026, Chiefs have neither moved up nor dropped from fifth position.

In another encounter at Seshego Stadium, Sundowns missed the opportunity to reduce the gap on log leaders Pirates after suffering a 3-2 defeat to Golden Arrows.

The Brazilians had a chance to move within two points of Pirates, who did not play this weekend, but remain second on the table with 39 points, while Pirates lead with 44.

The other Sunday fixture saw TS Galaxy claim a 2-0 victory over Chippa United at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium.

On Saturday, Magesi endured a disappointing 2-0 loss to Marumo Gallants, while Sekhukhune United secured an impressive 3-0 win against Orbit College.

The final two matches of the weekend produced more action as Polokwane City were beaten 3-0 by the in-form Siwelele, and Richards Bay edged Durban City 1-0 in the KZN derby at Chatsworth Stadium.
