“Don’t Be Hero” – Pitso Issues Stern Warning To Durban City Stars Ahead Of Semi-Final

Durban City head coach Pitso Dladla has raised concerns over “creeping individualism” within his squad as they prepare for a high-stakes Nedbank Cup semi-final against Casric Stars at Chatsworth Stadium this Saturday.

Despite the proximity of a historic final, Dladla emphasized that his primary role right now is psychological—ensuring his players remain a cohesive unit.

“You have to coach them because games like this, players tend to become individuals, rather than being a team player,” warned Dladla.

“So, for us, we are really preparing like any other game as we prepare for. But the good thing is the fact that we are playing at home.

“The support will come in numbers, and that alone becomes a motivation for them.”

City boasts an incredible undefeated record at Chatsworth Stadium this season, but the coach remains wary of a Casric Stars side that has become the “giant-killers” of 2026. Stars advanced by knocking out Orlando Pirates and AmaZulu, proving their physical resilience by winning both encounters in extra time. Remarkably, Stars have won every match in this year’s competition on the road.

“This cup is a cup of surprises,” added Dladla.

“We don’t want to be part of those teams that are going to be surprised by Casric.

“I think it is all about respect in terms of doing the proper preparations and then dealing with the game when it comes.”

The hosts face a significant tactical blow, however, as star midfielder Kyle Jurgens is ruled out due to suspension.

The Stellenbosch FC loanee has been the engine room for City this season, and his absence leaves a void in the heart of the midfield.

The weekend’s other semi-final features TS Galaxy hosting Milford FC at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium on Sunday at 15:00.
